Health and best practice

Issues by severity, the fourteen best-practice checks, and how the score is calculated.

Health
Health: issues on the left, the best-practice score and checks on the right.

Issues and severity

Severity Mark Means
Critical red diamond Outages only: a device down, a loop, a stack member down.
Warning yellow triangle Real faults that hurt traffic: a stranded VLAN, a trunk mismatch, optic or LAG problems, interface errors, an unmanaged switch.
Advisory (i) Things to plan for: lifecycle, firmware, PoE budget, best practice. Advisories never highlight the map.

Issues are grouped by category (Loops, VLANs, Optics, Firmware, Lifecycle and so on) and can be filtered by severity. Select one to see it on the map.

When a loop happens, Loop incidents appears at the top with each incident's state, VLAN, likely origin, evidence, start and duration.

Best-practice checks

Category Check Severity
Loops Loop protection on access ports critical
Loops No unmanaged switches warning
VLANs No devices in VLAN 1 warning
VLANs Trunks match on both ends critical
Redundancy Redundant uplinks (minimum uplinks, default 2) warning
Redundancy Uplinks spread across stack members warning
Power PoE headroom (maximum % of budget, default 80) warning
Lifecycle Recommended firmware advisory
Lifecycle Supported hardware (warn this many months ahead, default 12) warning
Optics Vendor-supported optics advisory
Optics Uplinks at full speed warning
Visibility LLDP on both ends advisory
Security Management network warning
Documentation Naming convention advisory

The score

The score out of 100 is the share of items passing across the enabled checks, weighted by severity (critical counts most, advisories least). Turning a check off removes it from the score. How the score is calculated under the score repeats this, and What lowers the score lists the failing checks with the most failing items first.
