Self-Hosted Software License

Version 2026-10-31. Last updated: October 31, 2026.

This license is part of the Terms of Service and applies to the Lantern appliance software, its updates, documentation and license files ("the software") that BEPA Ventures LLC, doing business as Lantern ("we"), provides to you, the customer.

#1. What you may do

While your self-hosted subscription is active and paid, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to install and run the software:

  1. Production: one production installation of the appliance for each site you pay for. A site is one client network. A production installation is one that monitors a live network.
  2. Non-production: as many additional installations as you reasonably need for testing, staging, training and as a cold standby for disaster recovery, as long as they do not monitor live networks at the same time as the production installation they stand in for.
  3. For your clients: you may run the software to manage the networks of your own clients, including on hardware at the client's premises, and let the client's staff use it. The license stays yours: if a client wants its own license, it must buy one.
  4. Each site covers up to 250 network devices under fair use, as section 7 of the Terms of Service describes.

#2. What you may not do

You may not: run more production installations than the sites you pay for; sell, rent, lease, lend or sublicense the software; offer it as a hosted service to anyone other than the clients you manage; transfer it, except to a successor that takes over your business or the relevant part of it, after telling us; alter, forge or share license files; remove copyright or license notices; or decompile or reverse engineer the software, except where the law allows it despite this restriction. The Acceptable Use Policy also applies.

#3. Subscription, not a perpetual license

The license is a subscription. It is not perpetual and does not continue after the subscription ends, except for the grace period in section 5. Updates released during your subscription are included and are covered by this license.

#4. License files

We give you a license file in your account. It is signed by us and states your company name, account, plan, number of sites and an end date (the end of your paid period plus 30 days). It is renewed in your account each time a payment is made. It contains no personal data.

The software does not contact us to check the license, and it does not need an internet connection to us to run. The current version does not read or enforce the license file. If a future version does, we will say so in the release notes before that version is published. License enforcement will never delete your data or stop you from exporting it.

#5. When the subscription ends

  1. If you cancel, the license continues to the end of the period you paid for.
  2. After the subscription ends or is suspended for non-payment, you have a grace period of 30 days from the end of the last period you paid for. During it you may keep using the software and export your data.
  3. After the grace period you must stop running the software in production. Downloads and updates stop when the subscription ends.
  4. We do not delete, encrypt or lock your data or your installation at any point. The appliance and its data stay on your hardware, and you remain responsible for them.

#6. Evaluation and preview copies

If we give you the software to evaluate, for a demo or as a preview, you may use it only to evaluate Lantern and not to monitor production networks, unless we agree otherwise in writing. Evaluation copies are provided "as is", without support commitments, and the evaluation ends 30 days after we provide the copy or when we tell you it ends, whichever comes first. After that, delete the copy or buy a subscription.

#7. Open-source components

The software includes open-source components licensed under their own terms, listed in the THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES file in each release package and in our open-source notices. Your rights under those licenses are not limited by this license.

#8. Ownership and verification

We and our licensors own the software. We grant only the rights stated here. If we have reason to think you are running more production installations than you pay for, we may ask you to confirm in writing how many you run, and you will pay for any extra sites from the time they were added.

#9. Responsibilities, warranties and liability

The Support and responsibilities page lists what you are responsible for when you run the appliance, such as the host operating system, backups, access control and installing updates. The warranty disclaimers and limits of liability in sections 17 and 18 of the Terms of Service apply to the software.

LANTERN

Network monitoring you host, or we host in early access, that never changes a device on its own.
