Acceptable Use Policy
Version 2026-10-31. Last updated: October 31, 2026.
This policy is part of the Terms of Service. It applies to everyone who uses Lantern under a customer's account: the customer, its staff and contractors, and any client users the customer gives access to.
Only networks you are authorized to manage
Lantern discovers devices, polls them, receives their logs and flow records, backs up their configurations, and lets your users open SSH sessions and launch automation. Those are powerful actions. You may point Lantern only at networks and devices that you own or that their owner has authorized you to manage, and only within that authorization.
In particular you must not use Lantern to:
- scan, probe, map or poll networks, address ranges or devices without the owner's authorization;
- collect logs, flows or traffic data you are not entitled to receive, or intercept other people's communications;
- sign in to devices or services with credentials you are not authorized to use, or try to guess or crack credentials;
- change device configurations or run automation on devices outside your authorization;
- monitor individuals in a way the law does not allow, for example without notice or consent the law requires.
Our service and other customers
You must not:
- try to access another customer's portal, collectors, data or account;
- probe, scan, penetration-test or load-test our service (lanternnms.com, account.lanternnms.com, portals or collect.lanternnms.com) without our written permission; to report a vulnerability, follow our vulnerability disclosure policy, which permits good-faith research within its rules;
- get around limits on sites, devices, users or features, or interfere with license files;
- disrupt or overload the service, or use it to send spam, malware or attacks;
- use the service to store or send content that is unlawful or infringes anyone's rights;
- resell or share access to the service outside your business and the clients you manage with it, or offer Lantern itself as a hosted service to others;
- copy, decompile or reverse engineer the service or software, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
- remove or change copyright, license or other notices in the software.
Sensitive data
Do not put protected health information, payment card data, criminal justice information, export-controlled data, classified information or data about children into the cloud service unless we have signed a separate agreement with you that covers it. See section 13 of the Terms of Service.
Reporting misuse
If you think Lantern is being used against your network without authorization, or to break this policy, email support@lanternnms.com with what you saw, when, and the addresses involved. We will look into it, involve the customer concerned where appropriate, and take the action this policy and the law call for.
What we do about breaches
We may ask you to stop, suspend the users or features involved, or suspend or end the service, as section 9 and 10 of the Terms of Service describe. We act in proportion to the harm, and we tell you why unless the law or a security reason forbids it. Where the law requires, or to protect people from serious harm, we may report unlawful activity to the authorities.
